Often, quantitative advances in these fields – recently also recalibrated by the possibilities of big data and machine learning – receive too little recognition in critical-theoretical and qualitative empirical research on racism. At the same time, these diverse traditions may operate with different understandings of racism and discrimination, as well as the research process more generally – a controversial topic worth debating.

Trying to bridge these different approaches, the conference explores the key concepts, thematic frontiers, main controversies, methodological challenges and advancements, as well as the (changing) social and political context of quantitative racism research in an interdisciplinary and geographically situated manner. Through a mixture of international keynotes, curated panels, an open call on key thematic fields, and poster sessions, we seek to explore the state and possibilities of further improving and institutionalizing quantitative racism research in dialogue with alternative approaches. We welcome submissions from across the social sciences and humanities, from scholars who work empirically.

We also encourage early career scholars to apply, as a number of travel grants will be available.
