As part of the nationwide Knowledge Network on Racism Research, the Regional Network West will network and strategically strengthen existing structures and players in racism research, primarily from North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, and Lower Saxony. The Regional Network West is led by the spokesperson, Prof Dr. Paul Mecheril, Bielefeld University, and the deputy spokesperson, Prof Dr Serhat Karakayalı, Lüneburg University. The thematic and content-related focus of the Regional Network West lies in the areas of education and learning.
The Regional Network West pursues three central objectives:
- the monitoring and networking of university locations, non-university institutions, educational institutions, and community actors that are active and particularly relevant in racism research and racism-critical educational practice,
- a systematization, commentary, and further development of significant approaches to education critical of racism and discrimination, taking into account international discussions and in corresponding exchange with research on racism, antisemitism, flight and migration, and, building on this:
- the discussion and further development of praxeological research approaches in educational research critical of racism, including the relevant BMBF-funded junior research groups and individual projects relating to the subject area of education/learning.
In addition, the network will be available as a point of contact for politicians, civil society, the media, and the public with regard to racism-critical education.
